In their recent report “The State of Preschool 2008,” the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) assessed state-funded preschool programs on measures of accessibility, quality, and available resources. Overall, the year brought promising progress for state-funded preschool programs across the nation. Enrollment increased as 1.4 million 3- and 4-year olds attended state pre-k during 2007-2008. Total state funding also increased by 23% over last year. Finally, there were improvements in the quality of pre-k programs as 12 states met more of NIEER’s quality benchmarks than before. The report also included an evaluation of Wisconsin’s 4K, Head Start, and Special Education programs. You can read the full report here and the Wisconsin summary here.
