Recently, a well-known family child care resource and blogger, Tom Copeland, discussed why he believed quality rating and improvement systems are good for family child care providers. Some of the benefits he listed include:

1. Quality ratings will become more known to parents, and can be used as marketing tools to attract new families.
2. A QRIS is based on best practices in the ECE field. The standards can be used as goals for providers to aspire towards.
3. A QRIS helps family child care providers better “compete” with group programs.
